Marzena Ples

Sociologist, consultant, researcher, educator, facilitator, non-formal learning enthusiast, RPG and board games fan. Marzena is a PhD candidate at Jagiellonian University in Kraków in the Philosophical Department. She holds an MA in Sociology and Russian Studies. She is a member of the Pool of European Youth Researchers (PEYR) and European Platform on Learning Mobility (EPLM) coordinated by the EU-Council of Europe Youth Partnership.

She has been implementing projects for and with young people and youth workers mainly in the EU countries, Eastern European and Caucasus and Central Asia regions since 2011. She was involved in the development of various educational tools. Her main areas of interest are intercultural education, quality in youth work, youth participation, learning mobility, volunteering, conflicts transformation and mediation.

Sustainability is (also) about solidarity

The article aims to illustrate links between sustainability and solidarity concepts in the context of the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) Programme. Primarily it describes a holistic approach towards sustainability by explaining a brief history of the term and presenting its three main dimensions: environmental, social and economic. Secondly, it argues that ESC is based on a social sustainability concept.
